EXIT THE FOOT

JIMMY JAMES CANALES

OPENING EVENT APRIL 14TH

Co-Curated by Tommy Gregory of The En and Leah St. Lawrence, Exit the Foot by Jimmy James Canales, harnesses the power of fantasy, personal myth making, action figurines and play in response to the life shaping forces of parenthood, loss and the pandemic. Small-scale wooden figures, abstracted and intricately constructed, navigate a human shaped board. Individually outfitted, expressing different attributes, super powers or shortcomings, these figures tell a story of fear, wonder, courage, tenderness and transformation.

We are so excited to partner w. curator Tommy Gregory to bring San Antonio based interdisciplinary artist Jimmy James Canales to Great Jones for a installation debuting in April.

Not only is this a really exciting partnership between The En (Gregory) and GJG (St. Lawrence & Rysdyke), but Canales is an amazing addition to the Seattle contemporary art scene this spring! Canales is at the top of their game excelling in installation, concept, performance, and material work and we are privileged to be able to host a unique work!

Canales has worked in a multitude of mediums including found objects, wood and carpentry, and textiles alongside a variety of technologies. His work has been shown throughout the state of Texas as well as nationally, including Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; and Las Cruces, NM. Canales is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, most notably the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Award for Artists!
